Entry Level Driver Training FAQ's
On February 7, 2022, the FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) placed a mandate requiring new training guidelines for all drivers seeking to obtain their Class A or Class B CDL, looking to upgrade from a Class B to Class A, and drivers seeking to gain a first-time School Bus(S), Passenger(P), or Hazardous Materials Endorsement.
Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements were designed to create a consistent Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training level. Thus, new drivers seeking their CDL now have a new minimum training standard across the country.
The following drivers MUST complete ELDT training from a company on the FMCSA’s Training Provider Registry before they are allowed to take the CDL knowledge test.
- Drivers seeking a Class A or Class B CDL for the first time
- Drivers upgrading an existing Class B CDL to Class A CDL
- Drivers obtaining a first-time School Bus (S), Passenger (P), or Hazardous Materials (H) Endorsement
